On Assignment Until July 25

I will be on assignment in the Arizona desert through Saturday, July 25.

I will not have communication while I am away. Please send me an email or leave a voice message, and I will respond as soon as I return to civilization.

Thanks, Matt

2009 Prix de la Photographie – Honorable Mention

I’m pleased to announce I was awarded an Honorable Mention in the 2009 Prix de la Photographie awards.

It was me and about 200 other honorees. I am told there were over 6,000 entries…so 1 of 200 is still pretty good don’t you think?

Check out the winners here and the rest of the Honorable Mentions here.

Wild Colorado Grass

It’s been an amazing spring in Colorado. I’ve missed most of it, but still return every few weeks to visit. The rain continues to fall each afternoon leaving the foothills surprisingly green this late in the summer. It has been interesting to see the growth of the hills as spotty segments within my visits rather than the continual flow which comes with the seasonal change.

Most interesting has been the extraordinary growth of the wild grasses. I can’t remember the last time I saw grass this high back home.

I had to break out the iPhone montage again for this one. I wish I knew the names for the different varieties I photographed. I’ll have to update this post with the scientific names once I find a free moment to look them up. If you happen to know the name…do tell.

Naples, Italy

I just returned from a three week trip to Italy.

The first few days were primarily meetings, making contacts and shooting footage for a larger film project I will be shooting next summer in Naples. More details including a trailer and website will arrive in the next month or two.

Following my time in Naples, I shot a little travel story on the fresh pasta and piadina lands near Cesena just East of Bologna. I have to wait to share these photos until they are published, but I will have you know the food tasted great, and yes, I did put on some pounds. Anything for the job I say.

The final week was spent with my girlfriend and her lovely family in Sciacca, a small town in Sicily. It is a hard life when you spend your mornings skipping rocks and swimming in the Mediterranean and your afternoons at the country house eating swordfish pasta, drinking wine, and topping it all off with cannoli and a nap.

Here are a few snap shots from Naples. While I will primarily be shooting video next summer, I am undoubtedly bringing my camera. Naples is full of life, great light, and crazy weird Italians.

Next week I will be heading back to Arizona for another month or so to continue work on my current project. More details to come on that as well. Sorry for so much forecasting, but hopefully you will be pleased with the long wait.
