A little Blur of New England

I had a great end to the summer with a short dessert vacation through New England up to Vermont. I have a little sample of blur taken from my train from New York to Vermont. Obvious inspiration comes from Danny Ghitis, Daryl Preveto, and my favorite, Paul Fusco’s RFK funeral train pictures.

I got my first test roll back from the lab on Friday…I am very, very excited.

iPhone Montage – NYC and Snow

I went to New York in early February for another round of meetings. The meetings were great and it was awesome to see a lot of people once again. It also snowed A LOT. It was beautiful to see the city blanketed in snow…although it did make for delays, canceled meetings and sloppy travel. I mostly left the digital at home and used the iPhone instead.

It was a perfect excuse to make a couple more iPhone montages.

Mount Wrightson in Newsweek International

I see one of my photos from my Migrant Death and Identification project found its way into Newsweek International and Newsweek Japan issue. It is funny that the article has nothing to do with migrants, death, or identification. In fact, it has nothing to do with Mexico. The photo ran pretty small and there seems to be a color shift….but I like it!

Here is the clip and the original photo. This does seem to be a favorite select for many people.

iPhone Montage – Sonoran Cacti

I’m bringing back the iPhone montage again. What can I say…I dig it.

I spent my summer in Tucson working in the desert. I am still sitting on the photos, but I do have this to show. I was amazed by the geography found in the Sonoran desert. While it is a desert, and it is dusty, there is far more green than I first guessed. This desert was certainly no Mojave. Animals roam and plants grow everywhere. We can thank the monsoons for that, although they didn’t come until late this year. It was hot.

Oh yeah. Everything had spikes and I mean EVERYTHING. I guess you have to when it is 105 degrees everyday.

Naples, Italy

I just returned from a three week trip to Italy.

The first few days were primarily meetings, making contacts and shooting footage for a larger film project I will be shooting next summer in Naples. More details including a trailer and website will arrive in the next month or two.

Following my time in Naples, I shot a little travel story on the fresh pasta and piadina lands near Cesena just East of Bologna. I have to wait to share these photos until they are published, but I will have you know the food tasted great, and yes, I did put on some pounds. Anything for the job I say.

The final week was spent with my girlfriend and her lovely family in Sciacca, a small town in Sicily. It is a hard life when you spend your mornings skipping rocks and swimming in the Mediterranean and your afternoons at the country house eating swordfish pasta, drinking wine, and topping it all off with cannoli and a nap.

Here are a few snap shots from Naples. While I will primarily be shooting video next summer, I am undoubtedly bringing my camera. Naples is full of life, great light, and crazy weird Italians.

Next week I will be heading back to Arizona for another month or so to continue work on my current project. More details to come on that as well. Sorry for so much forecasting, but hopefully you will be pleased with the long wait.
